The Swellendam Hiking Trail is one of those trails that seem to have been around for ever but very few people that you speak to among the hiking community, seem to have hiked it. It is not an easy trail, especially under the extreme weather conditions that occur in the mountains, but this should not put you off as it is also a very spectacular trail and certainly one that should appear on any 'to do' of any serious hiker. The full trail is 6 days duration but there are shorter routes available ranging from single day walks to hikes of 2,3,4 and 5 days.

The Drostdy was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1747 to serve as residence and official headquarters for the Landdrost. Soon after a gaol, a house for the secretary, a mill and various outbuildings were erected.

Two Feathers Horse Trails offer scenic rides through forests, across rivers and along the foothills of the Langeberg Mountain Range. All levels of riders are welcome.

Swellendam Stargazers was born after a group of enthusiastic astronomers decided to share their passion (and telescopes) with the general public!

A 40 to 60 minute presentation is given and the group is then split into two for a tour of the night skies. A three course meal is also available should you wish to choose this option. Presentations are given every Monday evening at Wildebraam Berry Estate.

Our move to Swellendam in 1996 was a natural extension of our life together. The search for a quiet country town close to the mountains and the sea but not too far from a big centre had been going on for many years.
